This is the first time I have logged onto your site, but have not yet tested its content. My mother was a McCartan from Co. Down, where I was born. I now live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I have no McCartan relations on this side of the Atlantic, other than two of my sisters. My interest is mostly in the history of my grandfather's anticidents. His name was Daniel McCartan. His father was Michael McCartan, who died in 1902. Michael had two older brothers, Patrick who died in 1884 in Lower Burrna, Co. Down, and Edward who died in 1902 in Moneyscalp, Co. Down. I know nothing of their descendents, so there could be some in the U.S. |

Julia Cartan, born June 28, 1801, Ireland, emigrated with her husband (who died during the voyage and was buried at sea) and at least 5 children. They settled in St. Louis, Mo. Carten is Julia's married name. Her known children are Bridget, James, John, Thomas and Julia. I have accurate info on Jame, my greatgrandfather. He was born 1834, Ireland. He married Mary A. Murphy, June 8, 1876 in St. Louis. He was a member of Branch 183 K. of C., a St. Louis Fireman Engine House 32, died July 1, 1900. I am interested in finding any descendants of this branch and obtaining more info. |

They lived at Castle Street, Newtownards, Co. Down. They were from the Comber area, William James was a Veterinary Surgeon. He had two sisters that were School teachers, Mary and Martha. They had several children Robert, Mary, John Charles (my Father) whol left Ireland in 1927 for Toronto. Also William James Jr, Lily, Susan and Agnes. William died April 1927 and Margaret died Jan. 1928. |
